Terms of Reference
East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network: Aims and Objectives
The aim of the East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network is to improve the teaching of Public Health, to promote communication, partnership and co-working between stakeholder organisations and increase Public Health capacity in the East Midlands.
The Objectives of the East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network are:
- To develop a regional teaching public health strategy and action plan which addresses key multi-sector public health drivers and issues. This will be developed cooperatively by all key stakeholders
- To bring closer together public health teaching and public health practice to ensure that academic public health is relevant to and ‘fit for purpose’ for current public health practice, and that current public health practitioners and specialists contribute and support the development of teaching capacity across the region
- To deliver public health skills and knowledge to a wide range of multi-sector audiences, to enable the deliver of the ‘fully engaged scenario’
- To foster collaboration and cooperation between academic institutes at higher and further education levels generating innovation, rationalisation of resources and the sharing of good practice.
Remit of the Steering Group
The East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network Steering Group will:
- Meet the requirements of the East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network contract
- Oversee and monitor the activities of the network against the Teaching Public Health Network action plan
Membership
- Representatives from higher education institutions and further education with an interest in public health
- Regional Director of Public Health or representative
- PCT Director of Public Health
- Local Government Representative
- Third Sector Representative
- Representative from the Health Protection Agency
- Public Health Observatory
- Deanery Representative
- Health Trainers
Accountability and Reporting
The East Midlands Public Health Network is directly accountable to the Department of Health through the named Public Health Network Lead.
Reporting to the Steering Group will be six-monthly with a full Annual Report to the Steering Group and stakeholders.
Frequency of Meeting
The East Midlands Teaching Public Health Network Steering Group will meet on a quarterly basis.
Review of Terms of Reference
Formal review of the Terms of Reference will occur annually.
