PHORCaST
PHORCaST stands for Public Health Online Resource for Careers, Skills and Training. The project, which is supported by the four UK countries’ Departments of Health, is a joint endeavour by the East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery, the Public Health Resource Unit (PHRU), The Teaching Public Health Networks (led by the East and West Midlands) and Skills for Health.
Key features of the PHORCaST website are:
- It will bring together information on the many different career options in public health, including the variety of public health areas, as well as diversity of levels and settings that public health operates at.
- It will be equally useful for people considering entering a career in public health, as well as for people already working in public health who wish to progress in their careers.
- It will give information on the types of jobs done by people working in public health, the competences and qualifications needed for these jobs and the education and training available to achieve the required competences and qualifications.
Public health is a shortage speciality at a time of worsening public health issues. This online resource will be an aid to recruitment and retention of a high calibre public health workforce at all levels. It will offer one place for individuals or organisations to go to find information on careers in public health, roles, routes, qualifications and training.
PHORCaST will be piloted or displayed at the following venues:
- 3-5 November 2009: ICC Birmingham - NHS Annual Employers' Conference and Exhibition (stand 85).
- 12-13 November 2009: Peebles, Scotland - Annual Public Health Conference.
- 25 November 2009: Nottingham University - Joint East Midlands TPHN and West Midlands TPHN piloting session (Limited places. Information from claire.croal@nottingham.ac.uk).
- 26 November 2009: Northampton - Aim Higher "Highway to Health" event.
