EMPHASIS ON FOOD AND HEALTH
Food and Health Network
Within ‘Investment for Health' - the East Midlands Public Health Strategy, two of the sixteen public health objectives cover diet and food safety. Objective 5 - Diet and objective 10 - Food Safety.
Following the launch of Investment for Health and to support the delivery of both of these objectives, a Regional Food and Health Network was established, as part of the expansion of the “Emphasis” regional Public Health Network. This network is jointly supported by the Health Development Agency and the East Midlands Public Health Group.
The benefits of membership:
- Membership of a development group and/or access to development days
- Learning Sets with specific focus and time limited
- Separate websites as part of “Emphasis” in Food & Health with links to SFVS & 5 A Day and sign posting to other useful sites
- Access to a directory/database of food & health projects within the East Midlands & contact details & the completed Regional Food Problem Analysis.
- Accessible contact details of network members
- Opportunity to participate in a wider reference group for the development of a Regional Food & Health Action Plan
Useful Information
As part of Investment of Health’s implementation fund Derby City Council was awarded resources to map access to fruit and vegetables across the City on ward basis. A copy of this report will be available from November 2006.
The Regional Food and Health Implementation Group Public Health Group will look at the methodology developed by Derby and others across the East Midlands, to agree a standard methodology that could be rolled out across the region.
