Avoidable Injury network
Welcome to the web presence of the East Midlands Avoidable Injury Partnership
WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO…
The East Midlands has one of the highest rates of death and serious injury from accidents of all the English regions. Across the country, the cost of dealing with accidents in the home is estimated at £1.75bn and consequences of pain and suffering remains unmeasurable.
Partners in the East Midlands Avoidable Injury Partnership include health, rescue and government professionals plus organisations engaged directly in accident prevention , such as RoSPA. All are working to reduce the amount of serious accidents in our homes, at work, at play and on the roads.
The amount of injury and death has not reduced significantly over the last few years. If we are to meet the key government targets something more has to be done:
- An agreed regional action plan for reducing avoidable injury is now available
(http://www.emphasisnetwork.org.uk/emphasison/avoidinjury.htm) - A list of each county’s work on accident prevention is available
- The Strategy:
- Identifies where the greatest number of accidents and injuries occur
- Identifies the most vulnerable groups
- Highlights the existing evidence base of what works
Delivery of this strategy and successful completion of the action plan will take time and the effective contribution of many people working at all levels in the region. AvoidInjury.org will support this joint effort by; championing the avoidable injuries agenda, linking national objectives to local initiatives, offering advice and assistance when necessary and ensuring successes are recognised and celebrated.
