Themed regional networks
The emphasis network (East Midlands Public Health Network) has been established for several years. In this period of time the number of people on the network has expanded rapidly and now stands at over 1700 named members. These members benefit from direct mailing for events, e-bulletins and the website.
The original events were focussed around multi-disciplinary areas of work, i.e. building capacity and capability, partnership working, examining the public health agenda. However, as the membership and interest in the network has grown there has been an increased demand in the need for more focussed, themed networks and this was the beginning of smaller sub-networks. Some of our well established networks are food and health, physical activity and avoidable injury (accidents). These three networks also serve the purpose of underpinning and promoting objectives within the East Midlands Public Health Strategy, ‘Investment for Health’.
All the networks follow a similar format offering information regarding membership, events, project mapping and discussion boards with plans to continue to refine this information and increase the number of networks as the implementation of ‘Investment for Health’ moves forward.
